Simple LED Chaser Circuit

The simple LED chaser circuit is an interesting electronic DIY project commonly used in decorative lighting and learning elaectronics. This circuit is works by turning the LEDs on and off in a sequential pattern and it will creates a “chasing” visual effect. The circuit uses three BC547 NPN transistors , a few resistors, capacitors, Zener diodes, and LEDs . The circuit need a 12V DC supply to work. This circuit is also designed for beginners and hobbyists to learn the basics of transistor switching and timing through capacitor charging and discharging.

Construction and Working Explanation

The given circuit diagram is working in 12V dc supply. You can use a battery or mini adapter to power the circuit. When the power supply provided to the circuit. The initial stage the three 10uf capacitor get chargerd through the Resistors of R4, R5 and R6. When The transistor gets a small voltage at its base from the capacitor, it turn ON and the current will flows through the connected LED and lighting up. The LED Lighting Sequence is created by,

  • Transistor Q1 turns ON → LED1 lights up
  • Then Q2 turns ON → LED2 lights up
  • Then Q3 turns ON → LED3 lights up

The connected capacitor repeatedly charge and discharge, this will makes delay in turn on and off transistor. This creates the LED visual effect.

Applications

  • Decorative Lighting
  • Running Lights in Toys
  • Advertisement Boards
  • DIY Projects and School Exhibitions
  • Automotive Turn Signals

FAQ

What is a LED chaser circuit?

This is a electronic circuit Creating a visual effect of LED as chasing of one by one. So this called LED chaser circuit.

Can I use different LEDs or colors?

Yes you can use different type of colored LED in LED chaser circuit. Always check the forward voltage and LED connected resistor value before connection.

Can I add more LEDs to the circuit?

Yes, you can add more LED to this circuit but not only the LED add transistor and additional components along with it.

Can I replace BC547 with another transistor?

Yes, you can replace the BC547 NPN transistor with any type of NPN transistor like 2N2222 or S8050.
