High pass filter crossover

High pass filter crossover

The High pass filter crossover is designed for restricting the low frequency and allowing the high frequency audio signals through speaker or tweeter. The high frequency audio range will be 5 Khz to 20 Khz. The low and mid range is completely blocked by this circuit.

Here i am sharing some good quality high frequency crossover or High pass filter crossover circuits and its brief explanation also. High pass filter available in two types,

  • Passive High pass filter crossover
  • Active High pass filter crossover

Passive high pass filter crossover

The passive high pass crossover contains copper coils and resistor connected together, and this circuit is connected to the out put of the audio amplifier ( speaker connection ) so it doest need any input working voltage. This type of filter crossover is known as passive filter crossover.

Active high pass filter crossover

Active High pass filter crossover is a electronics device contains operational amplifiers, capacitor and resistor etc. This circuit connected to the pre section of the audio amplifier. This circuit need input voltage to work. This circuit will work with the preamplifier section and does’t loss any energy from the speaker output. This type of cross over is known as active filter crossover.

Why High pass filter crossover needed?

The high pass filter is a type of audio crossover that will effectively blocking the sound frequencies below the cut off point. Example: if the crossover frequency is 3 khz, the lower input frequency sound will get blocked or reduced to preventing them from passing to the speaker. this is called as cut off frequency.

The high pass filter is typically using for blocking the bass to the small speaker or tweeter. In audio system the center channel contains a single or double tweeter for improving the vocal sounds of humans. The high frequency range will give the clear sound to hear without any disturbances.

The capacitor have low impedance to the high frequency. So it will act to blocking the low frequency and pass through the high frequency audios.

The combination of resistor, capacitor, pass the high frequency to the tweeter and blocking the lower frequency ranges. The inductor has the lower impedance for low frequency, so it act as blocking of high frequency range. let it pass the low frequency ranges, so the woofer is connected in their.
