The S8050 is a general purpose transistor with medium power dissipation. This NPN transistor is available in TO-92 and SOT-23 Packages. This article I’m sharing S8050 Transistor Pinout, Equivalent transistor for replacement and its specifications.
What is S8050 Transistor?
S8050 is a common NPN transistor used in many electronic circuits. This transistor is comes under the general purpose transistors category. The transistor available in through hole or SMD model. The TO-92 Through hole is very suitable for DIY projects.
This transistor has high power dissipation comparing with the BC547 or BC548 transistors, so this transistor can use in medium power electronics circuits like switching relay, driving LED or totem pole driver circuits.

S8050 Transistor Pinout

Hold the transistor, the flat side of the transistor facing you and the three pins or legs are pointing towards the earth. Then count the pin numbers from left to right as Pin1, Pin 2 and Pin 3. Pin 1 is Emitter, Pin 2 is Base and Pin 3 is Collector respectively.
Pinout Configuration
The pinout configuration configuration for T)-92 package is given below in the table.
| Pin Number | Pin Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Emitter (E) | Current flows out and the pin is connected to ground in most circuits. |
| 2 | Base (B) | Controls the transistor (input signal). |
| 3 | Collector (C) | Current flows in and connected to the load load. |
Specifications
- Transistor Type: NPN
- Maximum Collector Current is 700 mA (up to 1.5 A in some specialized versions like the SS8050).
- Collector-Emitter Voltage is 20V to 25V.
- Collector-Base Voltage is 30V to 40V.
- DC Current Gain ranges from 40 to 400, with a typical gain of around 110.
- Power Dissipation of the transistor is 300 mW (SOT-23) to 1 W (TO-92).
- Transition Frequency is 100 MHz to 150 MHz.
S8050 Transistor as a Switch Circuit

In this given circuit the transistor is acts like a switch. When the switch pressed, the positive voltage reaches to the transistors base pin. This will turn ON the transistor and the current passing though the transistor and LED turns ON.
Also Check: The S8550 is available in SMD type which is marked as 2TY, it is comes in SOT-23 packaging.
Complementary Pair
- S8550 PNP transistor is the complementary pair of S8050 NPN Transistor.
Equivalent Transistor for Replacement
You can use the alternative transistors if the S8050 is not available in your market, I suggest to use 2N3904, BC547, PN2222A, S9013, and SS8050. Always check the current ratings and pinout configuration before replacing with these transistors.
Applications
- Audio amplification
- Relay drivers
- LED switching
- Signal conditioning
