I found a helpful electronic component from sayal electronics, which has inbuilt LED and switch it is simple tactile switch. The Push Switch Momentary normally open switch with 3mm LED inbuilt. I actually wonder about the Idea of making this kind of components, which is much more helpful to electronics hobbyist and engineers.

Why Choose an Integrated LED Switch?

In the traditional method, two holes are drilled on the panel for LED indication and the switch. This looks messy and requires more wires to connect. Implementing a 3V LED to the switch provides the perfect solution to reduce space and complex wiring.

The 3V LED Resistor Calculation

If you are connecting the switch to a 5V supply, such as an Arduino or any other microcontroller IC, the LED forward voltage is 3V and 20mA current. So, the LED needs a resistor to limit the current. We can calculate it by using an online series LED calculator tool. I am also providing the manual calculation below:

To find the R value we are using the ohm’s law equation of,

R=VsourceVledIledR = \frac{V_{source} – V_{led}}{I_{led}}

For 5V supply The Resistor value will be,

R=5V3V0.02A=100ΩR = \frac{5\text{V} – 3\text{V}}{0.02\text{A}} = 100\,\Omega

  • LED Cathode pin – Connected to the negative supply
  • LED Anode Pin – Connected to the positive supply using Resistor if voltage above 3V.
  • Switch contacts- The switch pins are normally opened and no contact each other. It initially acts like open circuit.
