VCNL4010 Proximoty Sensor

The VCNL4010 is a small distance proximity sensor that works well with microcontrollers. If you need to detect the objects farther away over 10 cm a SHARP IR sensor would be a better choice. However, for short distances of up to 200 mm (7.5 inches) the VCNL4010 proximity sensor is an ideal choice for your project. The sensor works best within 10–150 mm range. So this makes it great for detecting nearby objects, such as a hand moving close or a robot approaching a wall.

This sensor is also includes an ambient light sensor and it is easy to use with any microcontroller that supports I2C communication. It supports both 3.3V and 5V logic, so it won’t get damaged by either voltage. The sensor has a built-in 3.3V regulator. so you can power it with 3.3V to 5V dc supply. Using sing 5V is recommended because it powers the IR LED, making it more effective.
