What is transformer – Basics and working principle

Commerce basics and the working principles

What is the transformer? A transformer is defined as, an electrical device that transfers the electrical energy from one coil to another coil, through the process of electromagnetic induction. Calculate transformers coil winding turns

what is transformer

The transformers are used to step up ( increasing the input voltage ) or step down ( reducing the input voltage ) the voltage level.

What is transformer and Working principle of transformers

The working principle of transformers is simple to understand. The mutual induction between to coil winding. Allow and voltage difference in one coil that initiating a magnetic field.

in other, word That will transfer the energy to one coil to another coil.

Transformers theory

transformer winding
Transformer-coil and working

The coil winding of the transformer allowing to supplying an alternating electrical source.

Then AC current passes through the winding produces a continually changing and alternating electromagnetic flux that surrounds to the winding.

if another wind is very close to this winding some portion of the alternative magnetic field will link with the secondary coil. the flux is continuously changing in its amplitude and in the same direction, there must be a changing flux linkage in the secondary coil.

the electromagnetic flux is continuously changing in its amplitude and in the same direction, there must be a changing flux linkage in the secondary coil.

The Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction says that there will be an electromagnetic force induced in the secondary winding. The secondary coil is very close to the primary coil then the current will be passing through the electromagnetic flux easily.

If the primary coil having more turns than the secondary coil then we have to say that type of Transformer is step down transformers.

If the primary coil has fewer turns than the secondary coil then we have to say that the type of transformers is step-up transformers.

The toroidal transformers are ring-shaped transformers. that is more efficient than the normal transformers.

Parts and construction

The Transformer contain three main parts that are

  • magnetic core of the transformers
  • The primary winding of the transformer
  • secondary winding of the transformer

Magnetic core of transformer

The magnetic core is that helps to create the magnetic flux through the Transformer. The magnetic flux produced by the primary coil that will pass through the core and richest to the secondary coil.

The Primary winding or primary coil

The primary windings or coil, wind at the first of the transformer and giving the alternating current to this coil for creating the mutual induction.

Secondary winding or secondary coil

Tat secondary coil works if the primary coil generating the magnetic flux. The flux passes through the core then the richest to the secondary winding and the energy transfer has to be occurring.
