TIP35C Transistor Pinout, Equivalent and Characteristics

TIP35C is a NPN power transistor used in audio amplifier circuits, switching circuit and motor driver circuits. This transistor can able to handle maximum current of up to 50 Ampere at 100V. So this transistor is a most favorite one for electronic enthusiasts and hobbyist in electronics. In this article I’m sharing the details about the Pinout, Equivalent and characteristics of TIP35C Transistors

TIP35C Pinout

TIP35C Pinout

The TIP35C transistor is comes in TO-218 and SOT-93 packages. The transistor is comes in three legs which are the pins of the transistor. The pin configuration is given below,

1. Base

2. Collector

3. Emitter

Please Note: The metal side of the transistor (Backside) is internally connected to the collector pin.

TIP35C Equivalent Transistors

If TIP35C is unavailable or difficult to get from local market, the given equivalent transistors can be used. You need to check the characteristics and pinout of the transistor before replacing with other one.

  • 2N3055 – Classic power NPN transistor, lower power handling of 15A and 60V
  • MJ15003 – High-power NPN
  • BD249C – NPN transistor in TO-3P, comparable ratings
  • TIP3055 – NPN transistor with similar current and voltage specs

Complementary Transistor

TIP35C is NPN transistor and its complementary pair of transistor is TIP36C. it is a PNP transistor with the same characteristic. This pair of transistors are used in amplifier circuits and other push pull circuits.

Mounting and Thermal Management

The max power dissipation of this transistor is about 125 watt. So the transistor requires a large aluminum heat sink for efficient heat transferring. Always remember the insulator is placed in between the aluminum block and transistor metal side.
