3-Digit SMD Resistor Calculator

Stuck on an SMD resistor code like 103 or 4R7? Use our free 3-digit SMD calculator to get the exact resistance value in ohms, kΩ, or MΩ instantly.

Resistance: 0 Ω

Are you confused by the numbers you see on SMD resistors? These 3 digits indicate their resistance value. These 3-digit SMD resistors are the most common in tiny electronic circuits, which are surface mount type of resistors.

How to Read 3-Digit SMD Resistor Codes

The black small square-shaped component with three digits. Yes, it is an SMD resistor. Traditional through-hole resistors use color codes to show the resistance value. An SMD resistor uses just 3- or 4-digit numbers. The 3-digit marking system is typically used on resistors with a 5% tolerance

  • The First two digits represents the significant values.
  • The Third digit is the multiplier. (The number of zeros to add to the end).

How the 3-Digit Code Works

The first two digits indicate the resistance value and the third digit is its multiplier value. in an example, you see the SMD resistor with the numbering of “472” which means,

47247×102=4,700 Ω (4.7 kΩ)472 \rightarrow 47 \times 10^2 = 4,700 \ \Omega \ (4.7 \text{ k}\Omega)

How to Use This Calculator

You can see the first digit, second digit, and multiplier numbers in the calculator. Just look at the SMD resistor to see which number is on the resistor and select the number, and do the same for the second and third numbers. After properly selecting 3 numbers, you can see the SMD resistor’s resistance value in the result section.

You can also change the unit of resistance to be displayed in here by selecting the unit from the drop down option. if the result showing large number in ohms, better to switch ohms to Kiloohms or mega ohm for better understanding.
