Use this calculator to determine the decibel value from either the power gain or voltage gain ratio. You can also calculate both power gain and voltage gain from a known decibel value.
Decibel Calculator
Enter either Power Gain (P1/P2) or Voltage Gain (V1/V2) to calculate the Decibel (dB), or input Decibels to get the corresponding Gain values.

Decibel Calculation Formula
Using Power Gain to Calculate Db = 10*log10(P1/P2)
Using Voltage Gain to Calculate Db = 20*log10(V1/V2)
How to Use Decibel Calculator
You can easily use this Decibel Calculator tool you just enter any values of either Power Gain (P1/P2), Voltage Gain (V1/V2), or Decibels to get the unknown values. If you have a known Power Gain, simply input the value in the “Power Gain” field then click to calculate. The calculator will automatically calculate and display the corresponding Decibels. Similarly, if you know the Voltage Gain, enter the value in the “Voltage Gain” field, and the Decibel will be calculated. If you have the known Decibel value, enter it in the “Decibels” field, and the corresponding Power Gain and Voltage Gain will be calculated. You can reset the fields anytime by clicking the “Clear” button, which will remove all values from the input and output fields.
Applications
- Audio and Sound Engineering decibels are used to measure sound intensity. This calculator can be helpful for determining the power or voltage gain of audio amplifiers.
- In telecommunications, the calculator can be used to determine the gain or loss in signal strength across various stages of a radio or communication system.
- if you are a technician you can use this tool to quickly assess the gain of various electronic components, such as amplifiers, transistors for troubleshooting.
