Amplifier Power Vs Room Size Calculator

The ideal amplifier wattage for the perfect room is based on the room size and the speaker sensitivity, if you are in doubt about the amplifier wattage? Which amplifier can I use in my bedroom or hall? The perfect amplifier wattage calculator based on the room measurement is here.

Enter the details to estimate the required amplifier power.

The perfect watts for the room are calculated using a different formula. To calculate you need to find the following details.

  1. Calculate room volume
  2. Estimate speaker sensitivity
  3. Determine the desired sound level
  4. Calculate wattage

Calculate room volume

You need to measure the room dimensions and enter the values in the calculator app given above all values need to be entered in feet.

Estimate speaker sensitivity

The speaker sensitivity is measured using decibels (dB). This means at a certain wattage the power is getting a certain distance. For example, if 88dB means that at 1 meter with 1 watt power, it produces 88dB sound.

Determine the desired sound level

This determines how loud of sound you want. The normal range is about 80 to 90 dB.

Calculate Amplifier power vs Room size

The wattage of the amplifier for the required room space is calculated using this formula:

Watt = 10^(desired dB - speaker sensitivity+1*log10(room volume))/10
